St Margaret's Church Ladies Guild raise cash for RnR
The Ladies Guild of St Margaret's Church, New Galloway in Dumfries & Galloway held a plant and cake sale to raise funds for Southwest Scotland RnR and presented Jennefer Tobin with a cheque for £600. It is not the first time the Ladies Guild have generously donated cash to the charity.
Three members of St Margaret's Church Ladies Guild met to hand over the £600 cheque to Jennefer Tobin of Southwest Scotland RnR, which is based in Carsethorn. The charity, which suffered a setback earlier this year when fire gutted one room and caused a huge amount of smoke damage throughout the premises, has had its work cut out to get ready to welcome the first groups of injured Royal Marines.
President of the Ladies Guild, Christine Rankin said: “We are a very small group of about 14 ladies who meet four times a year to plan fund raising events for good causes. RnR has been chosen this year because one of our group brought the good work and tremendous benefits of the project to our attention. We are happy to support such a worthwhile cause and help Jennefer and her helpers in some small way to continue the great work they are doing.”
Accepting the cheque, Jennefer said: “I can’t tell you how very grateful Southwest Scotland RnR is for this generous donation."
She continued: "They already donated £700 in December and a further £190 which they raised from their Lent lunch. This means the money they have raised is halfway to funding the cost of a week’s holiday for ten injured service personnel. This is particularly important as some units, worried about cutbacks, cannot afford to send injured men for a much needed week’s RnR. These adventure holidays are vital in helping combatants recover from their injuries and their experiences.”
